Hundered Year Old Earthquakes are the new awesome
This week, San Francisco marked the centennial of the 1906 earthquake and fire. You know - the huge quake that killed hundreds and burned most of San Francisco to the ground and left a quarter of a million refugees homeless? If you read the papers, they will tell you that we remembered the occasion with "a ceremony and a parade that mixed somber reflection of the past with a celebration of the city's present."
Everyone got up at 4am (since that is when the big quake of 1906 hit) and marched down Market Street to commemorate the earthquake. I decided to stay in bed, and now I am glad I did, because all the photos I have seen look like every other parade San Francisco has ever thrown - scantily clad women kissing hundred-year old men.
San Francisco never was very good at that whole being somber thing.

Sure, just throw another parade right in my face. Next time you come here, we will have a parade of the mormo variety (salt water taffy).

does the mormon variety also include a dragon costume and blaring 'you shook me all night long'? if so, count me IN
