Vanity is the new awesome

Ok, so I don't have too much against Dave Matthew's Band or their fans, but I saw this plate while visiting my grandma yesterday and had a good laugh. I get what the owner of the car is trying to say on their vanity plate. Rather than a 'DeadHead' they are a 'DMB Head." Just a serious DMB fan. Okay. Do you think that the owner of this car realizes that most of the people when reading their license plate without getting close enough to read the frame are just going to assume that they wanted their plate to read "dumbhead"?

I think vanity plates are a little like tattoos. You see a lot of bad ones and wonder why people paid good money to get them. Moral of the story: Think long and hard about what you are going to have yours say (tattoos or vanity plates), because you probably don't get to change it until you buy a new car or get a new body (or laser surgery).

  3. Dumbhead....that's what I thought too, and then when I looked at it closer I thought a) real deadheads would be outraged and b)well, they are definitely dumbheads if they proclaim their love for DMB. Oy.

  4. Reminds me of the hilarious moment on "The Office" when the temp asks Tood Packer if he's a big William Hung fan after seeing his liscense plate (wlhung).

ps- thx for bloggin' bex. I was starting to have TNA withdrawls.

  5. ahhh. this may belong to a blind date I had. Let's just say 10th seats, DMB fan club member, and 3 hours of DM on stage jamming with Trey Anastasio (PHish). I'm actually NOT sure why we're not married.

  6. Fancy. My mom had a vanity plate made when she started her company "Design Envy". It says DZYN NV and she's had more than one person ask what "dizzy in nevada" means to her.

  7. Ha ha ha! Fabulous post! Sadly, even after I read the frame, I was still thinking "dumbhead". Maybe that's a reflection on me? Whatever. Excellent comparison to tattoos.

  8. Last week my musician friend said his drummer was headed to the Dave Matthews Band concert, and I was so confused...Who knew they were around anymore? Or mostly- that people were still paying to see them? Not that I didn't like them, too. Just...usually a band that's still playing would have written something new sometime in the last decade.

    ps-
Are you saying this tat of my spinal cord isn't going to be in fashion later? (True story...)

  10. AMEN.

I hate vanity plates I can't figure out. They make me doubt my smarts, so that is lame.

  11. This is my favorite story about vanity plates:

One day my organic chemistry professor came to class and said, "Today I realized I've been a scientist for too long...I was stopped at a spotlight behind a car with the license plate "818 GHZ" and I spent about ten minutes trying to figure out what physical constant corresponds to eight hundred eighteen gigahertz."
