Artistic subterfuge is the new awesome

the other night we had arts and crafts time at amanda's ceramics studio, where she makes all her lovely ceramic pieces. she is working on some mugs to sell during the holidays, and we wanted to get in on that action.

Emily and I are a little more on the amateur scale as far as ceramics go, but we are both really good at copying other ideas. Em is slip casting and painting flourescent woodland creatures, since these monochromatic masterpieces seem to be all the rage this year. . .
And I am making some owls (inspired by some vintage pendants that I saw) that shall soon be transformed into pretty little necklaces. These still need to be fired, but they are turning out so cute!

It may have been when we started talking in high pitched girlie voices and pawing through a box of trinkets to make jewelry with that Casey rolled his eyes and told us that our night was a lot heavier on the craft than the art, but rather than get offended and throw a bright pink bird ceramic in his face, emily had an idea to do something that Casey might count as art.

All night we had been passing some fellow artist's dried out plate of veggies that had been left on a table in the common area. Emily was convinced that those veggies would look better bathed in a lovely shade of hot pink.

And look. She was right.

Then we put the pretty pink plate back where we found it, to let the world enjoy our art.

This is just a warning to not leave any food sitting around too long when emily is around with her spray paint. Before you know it, you may have a masterpiece instead of a meal.

hey betsy, don't those owls remind you of the black lodge and agent cooper (what a dream!) and hawk and the dancing midget?

dudes, the black lodge blew my mind. remember when the one armed man explained how he lived among the people — I think you say "convenience store"? they lived above it. I mean it like it is, like it sounds. My name is Mike. His name is BOB.
